The new Blog!!

Welcome to the first entry to my new blog, pet sitter chronicles! This series aims to help pet sitters and clients alike. Here I will share tips and tricks of the trade, recipes for tasty pet snacks and more! First thing first. Pet sitting is a service that allows pet owners to ensure their furry friends are well-cared for while they're away. Whether you're traveling for work or taking a much-needed vacation, pet sitting can help alleviate the stress of leaving your beloved pet behind. In this post, we'll explore the benefits of pet sitting, what to expect during a pet sitting visit, and how to choose the right pet sitter for your furry friend. Benefits of Pet Sitting

  • Discuss the benefits of using a pet sitting service for pet owners.

  • The convenience of having a pet sitter come to the owner's home instead of boarding the pet at a kennel helps alleviate stress for both pet and pet parent!

What to Expect During a Pet Sitting Visit

  • Each visit is based off of time spent at the client's house! It can be anywhere from 15 minutes (sometimes pet sitting companies do offer less time for visits!) to over 1 hour long visits.

  • We feed, water and exercise* the pet (of course, cats don't need a walk but most love a game of play with a string or a mouse!). We administer medication if necessary from pills, to injections and beyond.

  • We bring in the mail, any packages, water the plants and can rotate the lights to make your home look more lived in. This is to distract potential robbers!

Choosing the Right Pet Sitter

  • The right pet sitter will ALWAYS be insured. This is the biggest concern I see in some sitters is that they think they do not need insurance, which also means being bonded as well. You never know what could potentially go wrong and insurance is there to make sure that any accident is covered.

  • The right pet sitter does not come on an app. The big ones, which I won't name here out of respect (and I am sure you know them already!) have a slew of people looking to make pet sitting a side gig for extra money. I am sure some are great pet sitters but the majority of them are not and are only in it for the money and not in it for the love of animals. There have been so many lost/dead pets because of these pet sitters on these apps are not exercising enough caution. The companies that have these 1099 workers don't necessarily care about training. Sadly, they cannot train them anyways because they are independent contractors and not employees. The best pet sitting companies offer W2 employment, training in how to properly care of cats, dogs and other animals along with emergency first aid!

Conclusion

I encourage all to consider doing your research on finding the best company for your furry family members. Don't be tempted by an app that offers cheap pet sitting, there is always a risk of finding someone that isn't as attentive as they should be! Pet sitting is a rewarding career choice and is increasing at an exponential rate due to the fact that more people are adopting animals! In the next blog post, I will be explaining the nitty gritty details of pet sitting for those that are interested in becoming an established pet sitter! Until then, Have a wonderful day!
